RSI - anyone with any experience?

Think i may be suffering from RSI. I spend most of my day in front of a keyboard and often go on the computer at night (which is why my build is taking so long).

Started having aches and pains in my fingers, back of my hand and arm near the elbow. Different pains at different times. Tried adjusting my seating position to no effect. Have even put on my snowboard wrist guards to keep my wrists level which i think is what has stopped the pain in my wrist but moved it down to near my elbow.

Had it for just over a week now .... going to look at seeing a doctor next week if its not cleared up.

Has anyone else had this? I appreciate its different for everyone but does anyone have any hints and tips?

Worth seeing a GP, I expect they'll recommend some physio, some brufen, may be if you're unlucky some steroid shots and, from the sounds of it, cold showers

Mate of mine had it, instead of using a mouse he moved onto using a Wacom tablet with pointer pen. Looking at him work (using 3D CAD) was shocking, but he got used to it and said it felt more natural. And he said the pain stopped immediatly, but returned whenever he had to use a mouse.

EDIT: Oh, and its worth trying the other hand on alternate nights

2 Have you completed a Workstation assesment at work ? if not you Should

3 Is it your Mouse arm ( suspect SO ) do you use the mouse wheel allot ?

I use a Logitech Marble Mouse at home and office... I used to have a tendency to RSI but not since getting this thing... the action is quite different.

Had an egonomics assessment about 12 months ago. Pointed out my desk wasn't high enough and it was ignored.

Started in my mouse hand (and mouse wheel finger - which i'd be using loads over the previous week due to the work i was doing reviewing transmission logs). Now spread to both hands, mouse hand much worse.

Trying to use mouse on the other hand, not using PC at home. No real improvement yet. Plan to have weekend totally away from computers (which will be tough - have locostbuilders on the phone for moments of desperation).

got a gel wrist support for the keyboard which i had lent to a colleague before my hands started to hurt (yes, i am wondering if there is a link)

Mike the first sentence says it all if your desk is not high enough this is likley to be the route of your problems.

I would metion to your team manager / boss / HR that you Assesment has been ignored you are seeing a GP.

If that does nothing get onto to your Health and safty rep !!
