I agree, baby e-type (but better looking IMO).
If you're modding that much it might be worth checking out the T6 GRP bodyshell as a starting point - though not particularly cheap
admittedly.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

If you buy one and dont need the engine... I might take that off your hands... I have the very low compression TR6 engine in the TVR... the higher
compression PI engine from the GT6 would be a welcome improvement

SWMBO had one. Great fun but an old fashioned driving experience. Suspension needs serious work to be up to anything comparable to a modern sports
car.
Rear wheel tuck under was always fun - you could feel it happen and pop back out again. Hers had a pretty much straight through stainless system and
sounded great.

How much!
Has anyone seen any other engines fitted to these apart from the triumph 2.5?
I was at first thinking a 2.0 zetec just to make it reliable but then thought it'd have to have 6 cylinders... so a v6 or IL6 rear wheel drive.
what choices?
There's plenty of MV6 Omegas with a manual box around. should be too hard to get 250bhp out of one.
Looking at the way the gt6 chassis is arranged it shouldn't be too hard to put any motor in really.

Not seen these cars fitted with anything different..
But the TVR M series has a similarly small engine bay... the supra straight six will fit in there....

Yup. Nice cars but there's no way I'd fit in one. Apparantly even if you're under 6 foot it can be quite snug!!

I'm 6'2 and used to fit but it was a good squeeze and not comfy.

I'd think more along the lines of a BMW engine, straight 6 to straight 6 as got to be easier and it ain't goin to cost a lot....

The BMW straight six engines are pretty damn big...
they also lean over to one side quite a bit, so require a loit of space sadly

Bloody awful cars - rattle like a biscuit tin full of nuts, handling not good a bit better on the later mk but truly lethal on early swing axle
ones, front suspension wears badly due to weight of 6 cylinder engines and lots of chassis rust. Engine is generally better than the 2.5 version
fitted to the Tr6 in that it dosen't suffer to the same extent from big end problems however you still get the old Standard-Triumph 6 problem of
crankshaft thrust wear.

I had a MK3 for years, a full IRS one, not the swing axle variety. XHL 604J. Ran it on YOKO A001's. Handling was fine by the standards of
it's day, the over-riding trait being massive understeer if you went in a bit quick, probably due to the weight of the straight six.
I fitted the Lucas injection off a 2.5PI and had it calibrated to suit.
Never had any engine trouble but the gearbox layshaft broke twice.
The rubber doughnuts on the back only lasted a couple of years and, as previously pointed out, the front trunnions wear quickly.
Infinitely more preferable to an MGBGT IMHO and a classic alternative to an MX5.
Unless, of course, you place absolute reliability above looks and sound!!
And they are not easy to get into and out of unless you are lithe and supple. Like I was twenty five years ago.
Finding a rust free one won't be easy and avoid the MK1's and late MK3's.
Overdrive is very desirable.
Geoff.
