£800 - £1000 warm hatch?
Afternoon All.
My van is dead and I need a new beater to commute in. I don't need the load lugger any more so would like something smallish and nippy.
I'd love a Nova SR, but standard cheap ones no longer exist. Does anyone have any ideas or even have a suitable car? Bring forth your
suggestions.
Must be reliable and have T&T.
Cheers
TC

Lol, rear wheel drive, mid engined, revs to 7500rpm, handle well, all round great fun. And you have a boot front and back which adds up to a fair
bit of space (certainly enough for a weekly shop).

Im in a similar position..... I'm on the hunt for a nissan almera gti, I've had 2 of them. Cheap to run and handle just about as well as
a FWD car can.

I'll second the MK1 MR2 if you can find a non-festering one, and the hatch requirement is not mandatory.
A few possibilities of the top of my head (not recommending any particular one)
306 XSi
Xsara VTR (ugly looking 306, but cheaper and likely to find one in better condition)
Seat Ibiza Cupra
205 GTi (if you don't mind something old)
Almera GTi
Saxo VTS/106 GTi
Clio 1.8 16v (great fun, hideous interior)
Mk2 Golf GTi
Mk3 Golf GTi (probably a high mileage, yawn-worthy 2.0 8v).
Alfa 146
Fiat Bravo HGT (lovely 5 cylinder engine).
Toyota Celica GT

205 GTi's are cool, and would be great fun.
That said you'll get more bang for your buck if you buy a larger car as they depreciate faster, it depends on weather you can afford the running
costs but you could have a decent Merc saloon for that money, or even one of the old coupés.
Top end you budget will get you a nice XJ.
