Ford Diagnostic system?

I can plug my laptop into my Polo using an OBD2 cable and VAG-COM....

Is there a similar product for Ford vehicles?

My sisters KA has an engine light on and it would be nice to plug it in and see what the fault is??!

depending on the age of the ka you will be able to get OBD/EOBD with the the car.

however Fords diagnostics are nothing like as structured as VAG so if there is no OBD support on the car or you need to look at a non OBD system you will find it a lot harder. IDS or any one of a number of after market systems will help i.e. MTPro however theas cost more than VAG com

You OBD cable inteface chip has to have the correct protocol for the vehicle the Ford protocol is PWM, VW are ISO protocol. Older ELM based interfaces only covered one protocol.

The good news is any petrol engined KA from 96 can be read but the amount of data that can be read varies, don't expect anything like the ammount of access some VW intefaces allow.

It really isn't worth buying any new hardware that dosen't also cover the new standardised CAN protocol.

it will be one of two things...missfire detected normally a plug lead tracking out or coil or secoundly an hego sensor code.If its the hego sensor code there is an updated ecu download via fords ids diagnostic to cure it with a new hego req as well.

Its odd that the issue only seems to have started since the car was repaired after a very low speed accident took out every panel at the front...

I will have to see if my OBD cable will work.... worth a punt..

Yes, all european cars followed the USA in the early 90's OnBoard Diagnostics (OBD) being compulsory for manufacturers to provide, I understand.

You will need an ELM 327 interface there £30 on Amazon
