Q for any MOT testers......Emissions limits
What would be the emission limits for an imported Mitsubishi FTO, 2.0 V6 ?
DVLA has it logged as first used 31/12/95 and first registered 8/4/02.
Place I took it to says <0.2 but it's owner (not me) is disputing and also claims it's
exempt from cat test. Tested at 0.6.
Can't ask my MOT man as it's Sunday and he's away for the next few days.

I think almost everything after 1993 needs a cat, so would also have a cat test.

there is an exemption for imported cars built after the introduction of cats but not designed to pass the cat tests, check v5.

You're out of luck. I used to have an FTO on an M plate, and got away with <3.5. Since yours is late 1995 and therefore N plate, no
dice.
See details on my website that I did years ago but are still valid I assume: -

same as above. My brother had a fto and had to keep the cat in. It was on a p if i recall correctly. If had a full stainless system with a cat bypass
included. He just swapped the two every time. It made a noise difference but not that much else. Keep the cat in and save the world!

you may also find even with a cat in it will read high, as the lambda may be on its way out....

First thing I did after it's fail was replace the lambda. Made no difference.

In the case of an import this isn't always true. If the car has no UK equivalent, and therefore no entry in the database it's tested to
pre-cat limits if it is registered in 1995 or before. My L plate MR2 turbo fell under these rules (since the Turbo version was never sold in the UK).
