Sky sat dish / LNB
Hi all can any one help me please my Mum & Dad's sky is playing up
when i go on the set up to look at the signal strength & signal quality the signal bars are all over the place moving up and down
Is it the LNB or just the dish that has moved with snow/ ice

If it's Sky+ i.e. has 2 separate wires, then try swapping them round at the box - if it's the LNB, chances are it's only one of the
LNB's (or wires) that's faulty. If it's the same the other way round, then it is likely the dish has been misaligned as you say
with snow.

what make is the sky box? there are a few that have problems with their internal tuners

I would test the box on someone else's dish first.
If it works you know it's either the cables, connectors, dish alignment, or LNB.
If it doesn't work on someone else's dish then the box is faulty.

If its windy where they are at its probably that plus a bit of dish out of alignment.

There was a lot of trouble with the Thompson box, and the dish may have moved, but they are normally pretty tight.
Get a signal meter from B&Q and test the signal by removing the box and plugging it in. This is the PROPER way of testing the LNB.
The LNB incidentally, isnt the wires, but is the receiver that sticks out in front of the dish. They do go, and a replacement can be had from Maplins
for a relatively low price. Maplins may be a better option for the signal tester also.

Slacken the screws on the LNB and try rotating it a bit if you can get at it while someone is watching the bars on screen. When I did ours it shot up
to 90% signal quality from a very mobile 43%.

What he says, The cheapo Sat finders are analogue andwill only give an indication of the Sat position its signal quality you need.
