Ebay/Paypal Help

Important Message
We've noticed some activity on your account, and we need your help in verifying some information. We're sorry for this inconvenience, but while we're working things out with you, you'll have limited access to list new items on eBay.

To help us resolve this, please log in to your PayPal account, and go to My Account > Resolution Center, and complete the steps for each requirement.

Thanks for your attention.

Hello all
A mate of mine set up an Ebay and Paypal account,he has sold 4 items worth around £50 and been left posotive feedback for all the items.
He logged onto his account with Ebay tonight and it through the above message up in Red writing.
He proceeded as asked and carnt understand it,so he rang the Paypal number and they said they need copies of his Driving licence and passport faxing to them and proof of postage for the items sent which he cannot do as they were sent first class.

Has anybody else had this or heard of this happening,to be honest it just seams abit dodgy sending copies of documents to people who you have no idea who is reading them.
The thing is they have restricted his account until they get it all.

Thanks

It does sound dodgy, paypal usually verify you by paying small amouns into your bank account then when your statement comes, or the money is seen in the account you tell them what they've paid in.

Paypal's Ts&Cs state they will never ask for personal information which could let then into your account.

Hello all
Thanks for the replies

In the last half hour we logged on to Paypal.co.uk website and rang there Dublin office as the uk number shown was the same as the one he rang this afternoon.
Dublin office had his previous call on record and confirmed that it is all legit.
They don't give any kind of info other than they need to confirm his details.

!!!!!!!!

Yes I have heard of Paypal asking for ID in the way you've mentioned. It does sound legit.

Also, if your mate sent items 1st class, with no proof of delivery (signed for is an extra 70p or summat) if the person who received the goods decides they want their money back for any reason (even if they just want something for nothing) all they have to do is tell paypal they've not received them.
If the sender can't provide proof of delivery, paypal automatically refund from the sender's account....

I can't stress it enough, "always" send goods with proof of delivery, it's only a bit extra and the customer pays for postage in the end..

Happened to me, my account got hacked and I knew nothing about it nor did they spend anything, not sure how paypal spotted it but they did and although my account was limited for about a week didn't cause any further problem. Did change my paypal password pretty quickly afterwards though to one of those high security jobbies!

Cheers, hopefully your mate will be fine.

Rich

Same thing happened to me 18 months ago. A computer algorithm decided my name and postcode was suspiciously similar to someone else's account. This other account had been up to no good, so they closed me down, and it was a case of guilty until proven innocent.

Update

These Paypal tossers are stupid, you cannot get any sence out of them at all.

The best part about it is that his Ebay bill is due to be payed now and it would come out of his Paypal account automatically but because it has been put on hold due to the above he cannot pay them.
He contacted Ebay to explain why and his account with them has been put on hold pending Paypal doing whatever they are doing, now he is getting demanding emails from Ebay to pay his fee's

He is very stressed out dealing with these people and i would advise giving them a wide bearth, after all this i might close my Paypal account and go back to old fashioned cheque by post etc.
