Career Guidance/Career Change help for the missus
Hi, just wondering if anyone can help with my girl friends situation. Shes a qualified kids nursery manager and currently working as a nanny but she
wants something different. Can anyone help with websites that might help her look for different types of position even if she has to retrain.

Would the obvious thing not be to train as an early years teacher she must be more than half way there now at least  ?
There are now several routes in to it-postgrad year, 3 year dgree or there's some sort of training on the job - apprentice type of route. Worth
a thought

If she wants to stay in education then nursary/primary teacher would be the obvious choice (as ^^^). If she has a degree then 1 year PGCE would be
the quick choice, don't know if they do GTP for primary. In secondary there's the SEN area which may suit her interests though
they're not an easy bunch to deal with.
But a more basic question would be 'what does she want to do?'
For example they are crying out for social workers at the moment in a lot of areas - but it's not a job for everyone.
I'd be cautious of going into the public sector as a new employee right now considering they are going to be slashing and burning pretty soon
and it still tends to be a last in first out kind of place.

The pre school teacher may be one to go for. She is quite a fan of cooking but unsure if it would translate into a carrer like catering. She was a
nursery manager but the whole conflict of interest between staff and owners and 7.30-6 shift got to her plus shes quite a softie and maybe a little
too young when she was manager of a 50 kid nursery at 21. Now shes a nanny but the employer is a b1tch - doesnt do her tax, doesnt give her
holiday,sick etc, her excuse is shes self employed and its part time work although she does excess of 30hours and its plain wrong, when she says she
will be in at 6 she turns up at 8 so ive gone to pick her up and then gone home only to go back 2 hours later and this happens on a weekly basis. To
sum up she is a really caring person, likes working with kids but not along side irresponsible/chav/bitchy teenage girls like at the nursery. One last
thing is i highly doubt she could do full time study as she is only just making money after outgoings with her current job and never been one for
study so has the usual GCSE's and NVQ 1, 2, 3 in child care.

Sounds like she's going to have to look up working rights.. you still get them when you're self employed despite having 3 heads..

Based on what's been said, I'd go for teaching assistant (pref. at a private school) with a view to going into early years teaching later.
Better money, conditions etc.

Excluding her rent and council tax, her benefits total £252 a week.
That's probably about what I take home per week after tax. Nothing wrong with that she's not claiming anything she's not entitled to
or getting an obscene amount of money she's just been careful with it
Missus still maintains that if we didn't have a mortgage to pay we'd be better off not working..
