anybody modified a kids electric scooter?

No seriously... My daughters electric scooter needs a new battery, i can get a 6v 4ah lead acid for just over a tenner, but i was wondering about using some rc car batteries to make it just that bit quicker as shes just about grown out of it now but still likes to ride it. Found these on ebay, do you reckon it will burn the motor/wires out? (it only has an on/off switch,no speed controller) 7.sv 5.3ah nimh pack

I was under the impression that the ah was just the capacity of the battery? May be wrong though lol

It is, but im going from 6v to 7.2v. The higher ah rating is just a bonus as it will run for longer (unless it draws way more current at 7.2v, or the hong kong battery specs are a lie!)

SNAP

I was working at my grandsons trike this weekend. The only way to charge the battery was to remove the seat, split the cable and plug the lead from the power supply. I got a Bulgin plug and socket and mounted the socket on the rear of the trike and the plug onto the power supply lead. Makes it easier to connect the charger without taking the seat off.

His trike uses the same battery as yours, a 6V 4.5Ah. I am getting a second battery for this trike to enable him to run it longer between charges.

Regarding putting in a larger power battery, IMHO this will not be good for the motor. These motors are designed to run at 6V that is why they supply them with a 6V battery. What I'm doing to my grandsons trike is not increasing the power to the motor, it's just making the battery last longer.

Hope this helps
Tom

going from 6V to 7.2V should increase the power by about 40%. Make sure you don't burn the motor out.

Yes, very interested

My 3 year old has a similar one to the police bike above and I was thinking of increasing the battery size until someone told me it would just burn out the motor

Wouldn't have thought an increase of 1.5v would do too much damage...
