who knows about HDMI cables?

weird one this.

we've got SKY in the house, the type with the tv-link multiroom thing, so we've got 2 sky boxes in a cupboard upstairs.

there has been talk of skyHD, but that won't work as the signal is sent round the house on an RF signal. what would be the effect of making custom HDMI cables, bearing in mind there would be 3, 1 about 20m, one about 15m, and the other maybe about 8m, and some kind of splitter?

my guess would be the signal would be probably worse than the normal system we have now?

you can do it with HDMI splitters although HDMI cables do not guarentee signal over longer distances. the best way will soon be fibre optic but for the moment. cat 5 cable with a converter is as good as it gets, but not cheap! i am doing this install atm on a large house i am wiring! any more info feel free to u2u

good man just wondering if it was possible for now. might not go for it. and if it was possible, thought the cabeling might be pretty expensive.

Just get a hdmi to video converter then use good quality video cable, its like posh coax basically. we send broadcast quality full HD video up to 250m at work with it. Easy to bend round a house too. but also think if you need HD in every room? if your monitor is less than 20odd inch then prob not, just have HD in your living room then SD upstairs?

There is no "cheap" solution to this unfortunately. You can not passively split an HDMI cable, you need an active splitter which aren't cheap, around £70-£80 for a basic 4 port splitter ( NOT a switch which are often wrongly advertised as splitters).

Cable lengths of 20m are possible with reasonable quality cable.
