Which camcorder??

Seeing since I've started going green laning a pay and play days I'm going to invest in my own one, and of course when the MNRs done for that. The one i use is (my dads) a mini DV and is PITA to get the video back onto my computer as I don't have a firewire cable/card to be able to do so, so I would be looking for one with internal memory or SD card for easy transfer?
Been looking on which for a couple of hours and I'm non the wiser as they seem to contradict themselves a little on their * system and the reviews.
So in the real world £250ish as a max, as above only going to be used outside and i don't care about if there is a still image capability or the Mic performance because its only going to be capturing the sound of v8's and diseasals. I'm fairly competant at holding the camera still when filming and wont be doing much zoom filming.
As you have probably guessed i dont know much about these baring how to use them.

....Discuss.

Thanks in advance

John

We have the HD Hero motorsport camera which is great for that sort of thing.

Cost about right.
Very wide angle lens good for track/road view
Waterproof
Small
SD card

I also have a GoPro Hero. Good pictures and easy to use but can chew through batteries very quickly.

If you get one, invest in a few good sets of rechargable batteries.

I attach mine to the car using the sucker cup, this means you can place it in all sorts of positions.

I bought a Sony HD camera and can't get it to connect to PC properly. It only plays of the Fuji camera software upside down

Even my £3 MD80 plays fine.

I was kind of expecting probs with Sony!

Kodak Z650 has good video and excellent stills pictures. It is a Digital camera firs and foremost but gives good video as it has 12 x opticat zoom so no real picture loss when zoomed in

As above, go for a quality stills camera that does video too, you'll use it a lot more. I went for a Panasonic FZ38, HD video at 30 fps and useable 18x optical zoom. Quality of stills and video is very good (and very PC friendly software)
