Walking boot recommendation
Hi Chaps
Does anyone on here do any walking?
I'm after a new pair of boots and have been a Brasher devotee for my last three pairs.
I'm now looking at either the Brasher Hillmaster GTX or the MEINDL VERMONT GTX.
Anyone able to confirm that a size 10 Brasher is the same as a size 10 Meindl?
What about which of the two to go for?
Just to add to the equation, I can get a very attractive price on the Meindl boots
Thanks!

My Dad got a pair of Brashers a few years ago and swears by them. He takes a 12 I tried them on when he got them and they fitted me fine, and now I
find a Meindl 12 narrow on the toes. If anything my feet my shrunk so I suspect the Brashers are rather larger boot, at least in width across the
toes.

don't know the meindl's myself, Brasher do get a very good rep. but I guess you know that already
(my mates dad swears by them and he must walk hundreds of Km a month)
from my own experience Sacrpa are worth a look (probably more than you want to spend though )
I've had a pair of the manta gsb's for the last year and a bit - they've been brilliant so far
(apart from one of the last 1/2" of one of the soles coming unstuck - but they fixed that for nowt)
I guess you'd be looking at the slightly lighter ones like the M3: linky
a couple of my mates used M3's for years and were very happy with them (now changed to manta M4's for more winter walking )
I'd go an try on as many different ones as you can before you decice - even if you just ues that as a way of finding out your size in a
particular boot model before buing on the internet
I'd never buy a boot without trying one of that model first!
the length is the most important thing because you can't change that
a good shop can 'adjust' the width of some boots (like my scarpa's) by heating them up and 'remolding' them
and the rest can be sorted with insoles
btw - field and trek have a sale on at the moment - looks like your Brasher's are down to £100

Thanks for the reply mcred1, its useful info, especially the Brasher link!
In general, are Brasher and Meindl perceived to be of a similar status and quality (?) or is one superior to the other?

Really depends what you want to do with them...
I can highly recomend the MEINDL air revolution range... I have had a pair for ..ooh.. nearly 7 years now.... Used them on Dartmoor, Welsh mountains,
Alps.... Really really good... and none of that annoying leather to have to spend hours caring for.. Keeps my feet cool and dry even on
dartmoor!
seriously worth a look!!!
Added bonus of the new model.. looks like it will take proper crampons as well
