So... what are the alternative fuels apart from diesel, petrol, lpg
OFFS
Greek government is thinking of stop charging Road Tax but will charge extra tax on Petrol.
We will be looking at nearly 2 euros per litre.
At the moment it is at 1.45 on average.

Well the Greek government does have a huge deficit / debt to repay - and looks like they've been learning off the UK Government.............

In Africa the roadtax evasion was so bad they had to do this.
Then there is no way you can evade the tax bar hijacking petrol tankers and driving them into a huge hole in the ground. Covering them up and putting
a garage on top to cover the sales of this stolen fuel
The uk version will be both...

In Greece, there isn't so much tax evasion.
The problem is the income tax that it is not declared properly.

Some alternative are E85 Ethanol and Methanol both alchohols.
You need to use twice as much compaired with petrol

I've heard Bacardi 151 will run a moped (never seen it for sale though so no idea how much it is.)
And the alternative to diesel? Fat
Mind you being in Greece you could always go electric

I had this conversation with Davegtst who is a voice of authority on fuel.
Vegetable oil and fat cloggs up your fuel system, inlectors, filters, tank and eventually stops the car working.
If youre going down this route, then proper biodiesel is the way forward.

Thank you for the replies.
Diesel or diesel similarities such as vegetable oil is out of the question as diesel cars where i will live are only taxis.
In Greece you are not allowed to drive Diesel cars on Thessaloniki or Athens.

you can run a car on fat... but its a pain. it will need to be pre heated and run larger injection nozzles and less restrictive filters. ANd will need
to be started and shut down on regular diesel.
edit: now irrelevant after your post above 
Bicycle is pretty good. a 40p mars bar can get me a fair few miles!

What i see is that a lot of people will mix petrol with water.
There were quite a few petrol stations that used to do that in the good old days. Not as many now.
Or, i can see me getting a 2 seater quad, beach buggy.

veg oil from local shops. get a 1000 litre barrel and use some cloth to filter it twice then use that in a old BMW or Audi. as long as it has bosch
fuel pump there normally good with veg oil.
i have a 2005 E60 bmw with bosch fuel pump 2.5 litre diesel on veg oil.
it runs ok. not great in winter but i mix diesel then with it.

i ran a skoda diesel for a couple of years. bought it for less than a grand, ran it on 75% veg oil. didnt have any problems in cold weather etc. and
apparently the mid-late nineties skoda/VW diesels are reasonably well suited to it.
sold it on after racking up quite a few cheap miles to a VW guy for parts. cheap driving.
i'd be a bit scared aboit veg oil in a car i either cared about or had paid signifcant amounts of money for though
