I know it's not a very "blokey" thing to say but I hate football.

Sick of the World Cup, sick of those sodding flags everywhere, sick of every company under the sun trying to get some ridiculous football reference to their product.....

Balls to it I say.....

isn't there a football forum you can post on instead? - seems pretty unanimous so far that 90% of us couldn't give a t*ss about the world cup and/or football in general.........

so if your not bothered why did you open the post, this forums for us all be it the 10% that are bothered or the 90%. that aren't. Good to know your supporting the flag. Any British achievement should be embraced be it sporting, acting, singing etc. Its these things that we used to be Great for. So lets start to put the Great Back into Britain

I totally and utterly agree with your sentiments, but...

1 - It is possible to 'support the flag' without liking football.
2 - Which flag are we talking about - English or British? I personally haven't seen many Union Jacks around recently...
3 - Some of us choose not to 'prove' our patriotism by sticking plastic flags on our cars or associating ourselves with an element of English society that is perceived by much of the rest of the world as a load of hooligans. I'm not saying all football fans are hooligans of course, just that it's a reputation that we have.
4 - I like to read these football related posts because it makes me giggle when I hear people say 'we played well today' or similar. 'You' didn't play at all - a load of overpaid people did all the running around. Again, don't get me wrong, they're very good at what they do, but their pay is totally out of proportion and most of them seem to have trouble stringing together a coherent sentence.
5 - I choose (as is my right) to support and try to further other British endeavours like inventing, manufacturing, manners and courtesy rather than paying £50 for a shirt that was probably made in China to try and prove that I love my country.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant, but I'm absolutely sick of being told that I'm being antisocial, unpatriotic or miserable just because I don't like football (or babies, or religion for that matter - but I digress...) over the last few days. Some people like some things whilst some don't, and that's fine with me as long as we can all just choose our own way of getting through the next few weeks.

Ed.

PS: Oh, and if you're having a pint or two during the matches, I trust it's English ale rather than imported lager?
