Chucking it in!

Well peeps as you know I've been in this job serving Nissan for 3 months now, probation period has just ran out and the good news in a telephone call yesterday was a 1K rise in salary...

Got my review either tomorrow or Monday where he's going to get the shock of his life when I hand the letter over...

I'm hoping there's some new episodes of Top Gear and Motorway Patrol to watch on Dave...

LG,
Steve

Right, Nissan are a PITA, demanding this that and the other, stitching up suppliers with non conformances... political nonsense!

Anyone who has done any work for Nissan will know what I'm on about.

I sit here on Team Valley close to Nissan in a cosy office in total silence despite there being 4 others here. There is some spat between 2 of them so the silence is golden.

Manufacturing plant is in Morocco who just don't respond to requests and then ask stupid Q's when they do. This is not the type of hands on engineering I do...

Its like being the net in a tennis match with Federer (Nissan) on one side and some numb nut (the plant) on the other...

Drive to work in the morning is a PITA down past the Angel of the North (no idea why that pile of scrap is named that). I always said I didn't want a job that involved the Tyne Tunnel or the Western Bypass.. but there you go!

Salary, even with the 1K rise is pants for an engineer, not even good for a tech!

I am working 7 days a week with 2 jobs now and the other, while being shifts and not as much money is more attractive.. and a lot less hassle!

Plan is to wrap end of July, go do my C+E and then try and pry a door open into the tanker driving market.

ATM I have C & ADR but feel full C+E will help.

In the meantime I can get some work off the agency who supply me on a weekend, delivering to Coop shops, keep the wolves from the door, keep projects on track and maybe get some time off to work on them.

One thing I will not be doing is going down the dole as that experience last time left me quite traumatised!

LG,
Steve

I feel for you mate. We haven't had a pay rise in 2 years, and I'm not expecting next year to bring any pleasant suprises! It effectively means that we have all taken a pay-cut over the past 2 years, but unfortunately I think I'm a bit long-in-the-tooth to tell them to swivel and look for something else, especially in the current fiscal climate.

Good luck anyhow.

BTW, thought you meant the kit car lark when I read the title

I'm not exactly banging on the youth drum either, just keen to get a career change in before the big 5-0.... if it falls through there's always the club where most of the dudes I went to school with spend their afternoons...

There seems to be a genuine need for HGV drivers round so I may have a chance

I started a new job just over two months ago after being made redundant.

Had three interviews - two sounded like the job i wanted and interesting. One was the complete opposite. I said i didn't want the job if it was the third and was reassured it wasn't.

Turned out it was the third job, warned them i wasn't happy and after 5 weeks resigned. Did a months notice (worked the hardest of my life) and now i'm enjoying not working. Got the redundancy to spend + the g/f has a job.

Spent the morning putting up new shelves in the garage and now watching the footy. Off to Glastonbury next week.

After 15 years work i'm enjoying the break. Once i've completed the car i'll start looking for a new job.

(Which considering the state of the economy is probably a completely stupid move).

Good luck to you

I know what you mean about treating suppliers like crap, I work for the company, who Nissan outsourced IT to a few years ago.

Worked a few weekends up in Sunderland to get it all transitioned and moved over to Paris.

Never got to see the Gateshead Flasher though

Well Steve,

17 years ago i was in a similar situation,i was working in a dead end job in a factory.
One day i decided i'd had enough so jacked it in and sat my c+e and adr.

It was the best thing i have ever done.i have never looked back since.

If your as unhappy as i was go for it.

Andy

Handed over the letter to a shocked, angry senior... bit of disbelieve but now the count down is on..

Time to sit back and enjoy the next 6 weeks

Never again will I be engineering for any automotive OEM

What right has he got to be angry? You're working for/with/against a bunch of monkeys and you've decided that the sub-par pay isn't worth it.. This is the problem with most people in his position because they got paid 1 shilling and sixpence a year back in 1912 they think the £200 a week we get now is loads.

Pay rise? Only ever had one when minimum wage kicked in...
