speaker fire

it can happen

a lot of hifi peeps leave amps turned on - so they are at optimum temp - but this one ^^^^ went bad and caused the speaker to catch fire

something to be aware of.

You have to wonder given the price tag, why the build quality looks so poor! Massive gauge wires to link the HF and LF sections, but bell wire inside and cones just screwed into wood with self tappers! Sealant smeared everywhere inside... Can't be more than £100 in parts there. £2850? not a bad mark up...

High end HiFi is good business with LARGE mark-ups, but then the volumes are decidely low.

IMHO the price:performance ratio peaks fairly low - the vernerable Pioneer A400 amplifier was a prime example (I'm not up to date with current equipment).

Once that point is breached you're paying for the design, looks and at the very top end exclusivity - remind you of the automotive world...?

Also IMHO equipment set-up and the room itself have such an impact on overall sound quality that most HiFi reviews are pretty meaningless. As a student I made a set of speaker stands out of 2 piles of building blocks with the speakers Blu Tacked to the top - did wonders for the bass clarity from my old B&W 600's
