PayPal...

I was on a motorsport website that I'd never been to before and put an item in my basket... I went to pay and was re-directed to PayPal for putting in my details. I merrily obliged... and then it struck me how careless I've become with PayPal. I didn't stop to check the website was genuine... hell, I wouldn't even know HOW to check it was genuine! I've just entered my details into a completely unknown (to me) entity!

I stagger to think how many times I've done this in the past and I'm amazed I've never been caught out (thankfully!).

look for the padlock on the bottom bar of the screen - right click it should say something like 128-bit encryption or something similar (however, I'm not sure if that GUARANTEES it is genuine....)

But make sure check the certificate attached to the padlock. Recently a few of the certification servers got hacked so it's quite easy to get a fake cerficate

When I'm feeling extra paranoid (i.e. spending a large amount of money) I always type a deliberately very wrong password first. If it works you know you're on a dodgy site.

The problem with boggus sites it is not what you spend with them, but what they do with your details thereafter....

Beware of what you wish.. for it may come true....
