SONY DVD Player - Tech Question

Have a SONY DVD Player and 'the boss' wants to use it in the kitchen

Can we use this if its stood on its end ?
(so the DVD tray is vertical)
or will this cause problems ?

Please excuse the daft question, but it would cause me less hassle if i can..

Won't the disk just fall on the floor while the tray is closing?

Aside from the above (PS2 has a lip so that doesn't happen) there shouldn't be any problems in playing

Accumulation of fat aerosol in the kitchen from cooking can have a negative effect on heads?
