Anyone know anything about upvc window hinges?
Got a bit of a problem .....
Having windows fitted and i've got three windows with the wrong hinges on. Despite talking about easy clean windows in EVERY meeting the company
hasn't fitted them. They originally said when i discovered this post fitting they won't fit them as the window is too large, now
they've said they'll fit them but will offer no warranty.
Strangely, i'm a bit miffed!
Manufacturer says max size is 600 wide by 1200 high for the side hinges (mila supplied 'ideal easy clean 16" easy egress hinge). My
windows are (measured from the outside edge of the window frame that opens) are 620mm by 940mm.
I'm waiting on a call back from the Mila technical department (called twice - still waiting on the call back) to see if they'll warrant
the hinge under the standard 10 year warranty for my windows - hopefully they will at which point i'll go back to the company who've
supplied my hinges and whine at them till hopefully they relent.
So questions -
has anyone got these hinges, do they fail?
has anyone got easy clean hinges, do they fail?
Are they worth having?
If you've already got a window with hinges in, can you retro fit a new hinge from a different company to the existing hinge without damaging the
frame (i'm guessing i'll need extra screw holes in the window and frame).
help!

We've not got those exact type, but from my experience the only difference between our 'standard' hinges and our 'easy
clean' is that one has a little plastic push in button that then allows the window to slide an extra 6 inches and then pivot another 45 degrees.
The main part of the hinge is identical to each other, one is permamently blocked off, one has a button. So from that I would say that there will be
no difference in the fitting of on to the other, and I am sure there will be no warranty issues.....
saying that though, window companies are the most awkward and weasily people to deal with on this type of thing, so good luck getting any help from
them.

Tell you what I know about those hinges.... you can go 3 years without even knowing you have them until you read this thread and go and check!!!

Wouldnt worry about the warranty in 5 years time if you need warranty work they will probably have gone bust anyways.

My worry is that they won't warranty them from the start - so if they don't fit them correctly (bearing in mind they'll have to
remove the windows they've fitted, convert them over and refit) then they'll just walk away saying "tough".
Once i've got them i'm sure i'll only use them once or twice a year but if i get a conservatory at some point it will be the only
way to clean one of the windows (and i hate ladders / don't want a stranger looking through my windows once a fortnight and then demanding money
for sloshing dirty water over the windows).
