House boiler issues
Guys,
I am on a British Gas home car package ( i know, i know!)
I have had them out time and time again and not one of their engineers seems to be Capable, responsible or proactive in anyting they do.
The lates is that my boiler failed to fire last month, i called them out and my father in law met them at my house because i couldnt get time off work
to meet them at home.
Enigneer 1 said the diagnosis was that the gas injector needed cleaning, he cleaned it and it worked as it did before. I spoke to the the engineer
before he left my house and i informed him of a leak, he said he had checked for leaks and had stopped it as best he can..........!
Then 4 weeks later it pi$$ed its content on to the floor and wouldnt fire up at all.
I called the home care folks and arranged yet another call out and at the same time asked when my last anual service was undertaken, i was informed
that it had been carried out by engineer 1 at the same time as the call out to clean the injector! - only 4 weeks ago.
I dug out the job sheet that had been left and sure enough the engineer had filled in the annual service part of it aswell as the breakdown part.
It stated that the appliance was left in a safe and working condition and that all visible pipework was free from leaks.
Whilst waiting for them to come out I had a poke about and took some covers off and found no less than 10 leaking joints inside the boiler, I was
livid. This prick had just not been bothered about trying to fix or service the appliance at all. The joints were all green with corrosion and were
all wet. I'm no heating enginner but for all 10 of them to have sprung a leak within 4 weeks is a bit of a coincidence dont you think?
Engineer 2 came out to diagnose and my misses was at home.
He made a list of parts that were required and she informed him of it leaking, his response was he would put some sealant round it and see how it
goes! She then asked him to telephone me at work and explain what he was proposing to do.
When he explained his proposition i asked which leak he was planning on tackling first? He said how many are there? I replied with 'you take the
combustion cover off and tell me how many you can see!'
He then took the time to look at it and agreed it was leaking like a sieve.
He came back the next day and stopped the leaks and replaced a few items.
One of the item he replaced was a 3 way valve which i beleive is a divertor valve for your hot water and domestic heating.
Since this work has been done on the boiler the bath has run a lot faster ( we dont have a shower and it used to be painfully slow to run) but it is
no where near as hot as it used to be. The downstairs water seems to be fine but upstairs is just about bath temperature straight out of the hot tap,
no cold required before getting in.
If you run it slowly it is hotter but when run slowly the pressure drops off and it stops.
What can they have Fcuked up in the boiler on their last visit to make it work like this?
If it were as simple as calling them out again and being confident in it actually getting fixed i would do it but to take yet more time out of work
and not beconfident it is going to get resolved in one hit is a bit of a pain in the ass.
Its a Ravenheat boiler btw ( Yes i know they are shit!)
Cheers
Col

In my experience, I run a property maintenance company, when a Locost boiler such as yours starts causing those sort of problems my plumber will scrap
it and install a decent one. I know it's not what you want to hear but it's normally the only long term answer. Once fitted just get it
serviced once a year by a good local plumber
