help with 2x strange tv problems

i have recently had 2 strange faults on tvs at home and was wanting opinions please. they are both impossible to watch as they are.
1;my girlfriend bought me a samsung 19" flat screen lcd tv which i used in my bedroom for about 6 months and it was fine, this was 3 years ago.i then bought a 26" phillips for the bedroom and was not using the samsung until spare room was ready for it. i then went to turn on the samsung to use in the spare room. it turned on,picture comes on for about 2 seconds then the screen just scrambles (black and white fuzz) but the sound is ok. it does this on all inputs, co-ax feed, hdmi from dvd and pc in put?
2;last night i turned on my 26" philips and the screen had small wavy ziz-zag lines about 2" apart horizontaly across the screen making it difficult to even tell what programme was on. again this happens with all inputs and again the sound is perfect?
i am an electrician and know a thing or 2 about tv's but this one has baffled me! any ideas of problems on either of the tv's would be of great help as at the moment i will have to talk to my girlfriend instead of watching top gear! lol. cheers

No idea about the first one (sounds like it's not getting the signal correctly), but I had something vaguely similar to your second problem - interference from a power cable. See if it changes at all if you jiggle the cables around at the back of the TV. Incidentally it was the power cable for a Hi-Fi amp that was causing the interference, so check any cables around there, not just the TV's (if applicable)

Also check the HDMI/Scart cables you've been testing with aren't faulty (many cheap ones have very dodgy connections and can easily come loose).

Start turning things off around the house and you'll probably find what's interfering with it - fridge freezers, boilers etc can induce crap on the mains and cause issues.
