Digi Camera Best Buy?
I'm after a digi camera for xmas fed up of camera phones taking rubbish pictures.
I had an old pentax slr before the world went digital and got into takig nice shots.
I can't afford a DSLR infact I can't afford much at all top budget would be £110.
Fuji do some bridge camera's that should produce nicer images with a wider field of view than a compact.
the S1500 can be got from fuji refurb for £89 or a refurb s1600 for £105. They run on AA's which is a bit of a pain as I like not to faff and
just plug the thing in, I hear the focus etc is a little slow on the fuji's. I hate any lag in hitting the buttom and taking the picture (worse
if you have pre focused, kids and dogs don't pose for long), all digi's I've had before seem slow but they have been cheap
compacts.
ANy thoughts or other options, I like the idea of some manual setting to play with so bridge camera seems a good choice

I bought one of these recently and am VERY happy with it. Great price, proper built in rechareable battery, great colour balance, good zoom and small
and light:

These are great for the money Link
We got our kids the lower mode [for less than £50] and they are excellent cameras.

With a £110 budget, you can get a very nice s/hand Fuji DSLR off the bay. In fact you can get a nice one for half that.
Tell them about the bent treacle edges!

Confused.
Have you got any links I can't find any for under £600 let alone £50.
Ok searching for digital SLR throws up better results any recommendations.
Ok I've looked at some of the ebay SLR's not sure whether one of those or a refurb bridge would be better for me. ANy recommendations of a
bridge camera, are they any better than a compact?

I've been spending £100 on a compact every year for about four years. I carry it with me a lot and it gets as much use as abuse, taking about
12,000photos in 12months before going to camera heavon and being replaced.
The first three where nikon coolpix s200, 210, 220's and the last one has been a canon ixus 100 on the back of my dads 75 or 95 or whatever that
was. The nikons where fine and bar one that was inadvertantly lanuched at 8 days old they all did well. One died of a doggy contact somewhere
preventing reliable power-on with the two failing due to worn lens mechs.
The canon was an end of line model of ebay to bring it in for £100 but was a better camera for it. Fasts to first photo, faser to focus, and
substantially sharper nicer photos. Thats not 6months old and sadly the lens isnt doing very well, but as i say, they do get abuse. Dropped, damp,
gritty, and thrown in my pocket with my keys without a case. Im going to buy another come the end of jan i think, hopfully the lens will do better on
the next one.

Canon all the way...
Also consider what you weill be using ot for. Dont bother with digital zoom, it is a waste of time. Look for a camera with a decent opticcal zoom, and
a quality chip/sensor inside. It is this, rather than the number of mega-pixels that determine fi it takes a good photo or not....

The bridge cameras have good optical zoon and I think a wider field of view than compact.
I want to take nice pictures of the kids, family, hard when they don't stand still for long.
Nice nature and landscape shots, e.g. trips to the lake district, would like to play with filters but can you get the same effect in post processing
on photo shop.
Car shots, when it's finished, like the ability to get the background out of focus with forground in focus.
Some of the best shots I have taken even for general family shots were with my old SLR funnily enough (shame I can't reuse the lens, sigma on
pentax mount)
A camera that makes the best out of low light conditions,

Yeah - that Lumix is great - my wife has one and it takes superb pics and has a Leica lense - for £110 I'd buy that, for £80 I'd have the
canon

Ok here is a thought.
There might be a chance the lens on my old pentax slr (think it was a mz or something) will fit the pentax istd camera.
If I could pick up an old body for a good price say less than £50 use my lens, this would let me play with dslr.
Assuming it woudl take better pictures than say the compact lumix pictured. I could still use my htc desire to carry around for the odd snap as its
ok.
So for the nice pictures would an old 6.1mega pixel slr be better than a new £110 compact or bridge camera with 10-12 megapixels with all the lastest
auto tracking this and thats.
If I get a pentax body really cheap i could perhaps get a compact as well next year in the sales.

hi,
i'm actually selling an s1500 which is practically new and has hardly seen any use, so mint condition!
Still in original box and will come with a geniune leather fuji case and 2 extra lenses.
To a fellow lcb user i'd let you have it for £100.
Only selling as i never use it and will probably just get a smaller camera instead.
Let me know if you're interested!

I bought a Kodak z650 a few years back, it has 10 times optical zoom and 10 times digital the picture quality is brilliant I have since bought a DSLR
the only reason being it shoots 3.5 frames per second continuously whereas the kodak only did 4 frame bursts. Cant speak highly enough of the kodak
it even had a decent video. These can be picked up second hand for £30 - £50 in some instance completed with the Kodak printer
