Can someone recommend a security camera and recorder system
As title, I'd like to fit a security camera in our lane which can be wired back to the house which is 100yds away. Ideally I'd like a
recording facility with playback via the computer. There are many options out there so a recommendation would be useful. Because of the trees etc in
the way I think I've discounted a wireless system.
Any help here would be appreciated. Thank you.

Following with intrest
a bit of a hijack but on a similar vain sytems that could record to a NAS drive would be usefull Cat 5 wired ?
As our house security is getting updated due to earlier post

I hope it is a private lane? Otherwise a security camera with recording system will need local planning consent.

One of my clients writes this: Zone Minder
I've heard lots of good things about. Just take an old PC, add a PoE-enabled IP cam and some CAT5 and you're sorted.

Virtually all dvr's now give access to the stored Images via LAN access.
Have a look round Y3K's web site
I wouldn't expect a pc to last more than a few months recording video data unless you use server rated drives.
Also think about the power consumption running the pc.
Provided that the camera is on your property and the property is not listed then no planning is needed.
You are however required by law to register the system.

I've an account with y3k and it's been a good company to deal with. Prices are quite reasonable and stuff of quite good quality.
It's easy to buy cheap crappy CCTV - far too easy.
I have this DVR and although you can get cheaper - much - it's been a good reliable unit.
