House insurance - Will it cover this.

Stuck this in the Non-car chat, but it is actaully about my Tin-Top.

Last night during the high winds, the Rain Protector on the Chimney came loose and ended up hitting the middle of the car bonnet. It has left some scratches through the paint and a slight dent. I have had it looked at by bodyshops who state that it will be a full bonnet respray and possible blend into the front wings

I am hoping this would be covered by my house insurance. Has anyone any ideas where I may stand before I give them a call.

act of god?

read the documents you have with the policy, they are usually quite clear on what is covered

Usually worth a laugh anyway, like on mine, my house isn't covered if I join a traveling circus

You should be careful about calling your car insurers certainly. Even if you don't end up claiming they will load your next premium because you have had an 'accident'

"That thing you're thinking - it wont be that."

I doubt your house insurance will cover the damage to your car,
As my house insurance, did not cover the damage to my car when i had a garage fire, and my 7 was damaged,
hence the rebuild, all at my cost, as it was not insured

Might be worth gatting one of the mobile dent/paint repair people to have a look - they seen pretty good on price and it could be favourable to giving either insurer the grounds to increase premiums.

I will give them a shout, but reckon the area is too big.

See what the quotes come back like. But for a A4 bonnet and blending the wings I am thinking 500 notes may be the result.

The bloody rain cap on the chimney has only been fitted for 3 years and rusted through already.. That was obvously a quality bit of kit the guys fitted

I'd just change the bonnet. If you can't find one on ebay or at a used parts dealer in the same colour as yours, then just get a brand new one (around £150 for a pattern) and get it sprayed for £100 (doesn't need much prep etc.)

(Not sure exactly what model you have, so this may not be an easy option!)

As said, check your policy. I'm sure my house insurance excess is around £300 plus the increase in premiums for the next few years. I'd be phoning as many car breakers as I need to to find the right bonnet in the right colour. Should get it sorted for well under £150 even if you have to pay someone to fit it for you..
