Pointer or palmer?

When you let another driver pull out or give them the right of way (in a car park or wherever), how do you signal to them? Do you do point with a flick of the hand or do you offer them an open hand?

I'm an open hand person, by offering your hand you're saying "if you want, up to you really, the offer is there, but I'm not going to pressure you into taking it" which is polite.

If you point to the driver then point to where you want them to go, you're saying "You! move over there, now" which is aggressive and impolite.

If someone points to me to when I'm trying to join traffic I ignore them or shake my head, nobody tells me what to do, in your face aggressive pointy drivers!

'You-there-now' pointing is a contradiction, pointers have decided to do something nice but then gone and done it impolitely.

it's worth bearing in mind that if you signal someone to pull out or walk in front of you etc etc and a crash occurs or accident happens, you will be held 50% responsible.

It is better to provide the opportunity by reducing speed and buildiing a gap and then let the other motorist or pedestrian make the decision without any signal from you.
