Just set my AV stuff up for the first time in nearly 2 years!!!
I can't believe I've been listening to stuff through the TV for so long!!!
I could never be bothered because I'll virtually never ever get chance to listen to it at anywhere decent volume due to having a <1yr old.
But it is so worth it for the odd time like right now!
I had a new TV about a year ago from an insurance claim. Same accident broke my Technics amp.
Took me two minutes to replace the TV (Samsung HDMI Plasma) and about 6 months to replace the Amp...
I am definitely NOT a true audiophile. All of my equipment is a compromise in some way, and I've had some stuff for quite some time and not
upgraded due to funds etc, and also had my speakers since living in only a bedroom (Parents house years and years ago) so space was the biggest
issue... Nonetheless it sure does beat listening through TV speakers!!!
Harman Kardon DVD 30
Harman Kardon AVR 4000
Bose Acoustimass 10 Dual Cube Modules and Subwoofer
HDMI & Scart & Coax & Optical Leads are all Gold plated interconnects (better than the free/standard ones, but more in the budget range,
I've never really felt the need to spend over £20 - £30 on leads to be honest)....
I've just watched:-
Fast and Furious DTS
Blade II DTS
Tiesto in Concert
And I've just taken the following out of my DVD sleeves:-
High Fidelity
Taken
Avatar
Kevin & Perry go large
Matrix Reloaded
So I am gonna just stay in all night and watch them!
Feel bad on my neighbours but my wife and child get back from there trip to Poland tomorrow!
Cheers, thanks for listening - just needed to share!!!

Nice, it certainly does make a difference, can't watch movies if the sound is through the TV any more...
Oh, please take "Matrix Reloaded" and frisbee it over your fence as far as possible, embarrassment of a movie

Nice one Steve
I used to have a 5.1 surround sound system for the TV, but it broke. When SWIMBO lost the hearing in one ear, it didn't seem worth replacing
it.
But, about 6 months ago, we ugraded the TV from a 32" CRT to a 42" LCD Samsung and I took the opportuity to upgrade from DVD to a new
Bluray / 5.1 system!
Soooooo pleased with it. First time I tried it out I was watching a wildlife documentary on BBC HD, and when the Lion roared the cat ran out of the
room!

Just one of the things that have made the job a little harder...
Since my wife decided that she doesn't want any wires in the house (?!?!?!?!?!!??!!??!??!!!?!??) "we" decided to take the tv off the
wall and take down my old av stand.
So now I have my stuff in/on a conventional tv stand...
Not the best, but compromise is what (my) life is all about!
So I had nowhere to properly mount my front speakers. So I made this:-
To be fair it was a little unstable, so the "feet" are now fit snugly under the tv stand and it's going nowhere!
Now this is what I have!
So what have you got?
And what's more, what compromises have you encountered???

I'll only be watching it for the fight scene after the meeting scene where Neo fights the two "normal" agents and toward the end of
the fight, he kicks one of them into a street lamp and the lense falls to the floor with the faintest of whistles then the glass shatters...
Sounds ace!!!

The original Matrix lobby scene is the best test of a surround system _ crank it, listen to the bass and the tinkling of spent shells!
It's time for me to upgrade my setup, still using a pro logic Sony av amp. Probably get one of the new network enabled onkyos for mp3 and
internet radio without a pc. Wireless speakers for the secondary channel should let me pipe it to the garage too

I barely use my Yamaha sound-bar thingy... no point in turning it on when the only thing on the box is Emmerdale or Corrie!
It's Evolution Baby!
