Hi all My pond pump is packing up / it keeps stopping so i need to go and buy a new one
It has to pump 2000+ lts a hour
I would like the type that goes outside the pond and will take 40mm pipes [ in & out ]
The old pump has lasted 16years but the manufacture no longer exists
SO what make/ model pump do people advise me to buy
I need to get one tomorrow

Blagdon, Tetra and Laguna pumps are all of proven reliability though Lagunas have got quite expensive this year. Hozelock is not so good but not
disastrously bad. Unless you're prepared to replace it every year steer clear of anything from Netto/Aldi etc. Best to buy from an
aquarium/pond specialist as they're more likely to know what they're talking about. Easy Jet pumps are cheap but too early to comment on
reliability yet. Whatever you get try to buy one that is in a cage with no sponge filter on the intake as they're too prone to blocking up
(daily in some cases). Make sure it's got at least as three year guarantee which is the norm.
Oops just reread your post and realized you want one that goes outside the pond. Blagdon Amphibious was a wonderful pump and could be used
externally with an additional case but I'm fairly sure they don't make them anymore. Hardly anyone uses external pumps and I don't
really see the point either. Central heating pumps with an extra housing were used at one time but they're more expensive than most pond pumps
now. Incidentally you don't really need such large pipe as one inch is more than adequate on a 2000l/hr pump. If you get one it will probably
have a hosetail for 3/4,1 and 11/4 inch so you'd probably just have to get an adaptor if you want to use your old pipe work.

PS pity you're not nearer as I've got a laguna 2200 and a Hozelock 2000 that you could borrow to tide you over.

I have an Oase in-the-pond pump that has been running continuously for around 10 years (apart from when there's a risk of the pond freezing).
Their current models are almost identical to mine.
Fairly expensive, but spares seem to be readily available.

I vote for Hozelock - I've got a 5500 - like thisHozelock Titan 5500 Pond Pump | eBay UK
It is submersible, though. I have had mine in the pond at my last house for 4 years, stored it for a year when we moved, and it has now been running
another 3 years here. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year - even through the last 2 years' deep - freezes.

I ran a central heating one with my pond had to make my own filter and fit it in a waterproof housing pipe was inch and a half. Moved more water than
the titanic took on Cheap as well only down side was the filter got knocked off and a couple of fish couldnt swim against the current and where sucked
up
Life is like a bowl of fruit, funny how all the weird looking ones are left alone

Jacko is Kingston Koi on Astral Road, Hull still in business? If it's still there ask for Andrew. Tell him someone in Morecambe sent you. He
should be able to sort you.
