And of course 'our Tony' will be close on his heels like a good little dog saying 'what a good idea'. (The rant continues)

Black box

Here in Tennessee they already tried it. SInce there are a great amount of crashes involving pick up trucks the State Govt. had black boxes with voice recorders installed by the factory. After review of a number of crash scenes and black box analysis 90% of the last words of the driver were...."hold my beer this is gonna be fun"

My wife received an invitation from her insurer (Norwich union direct) today to have a black box fitted to her car as a trial of a "pay as you drive" scheme.

You can just imagine it though can't you - shortly before the accident you were travelling at 31mph in a 30 limit and therefore we will not be paying out! They do claim the data received will not be shared with any third party - how long before there is a law which means they have to share it with the authorities so they know even more about what we are doing.

It might be tempting to go for the trial and intermittently disconnect the aerial - it should destroy any useful information for them and we will still get the 25% policy discount for the trial they are offering.

Yes this resurfaces every few years I remember it back when clinton was in office, it's actually from what I understand a democrat sponsored bill.

While I do agree that it is a good idea it can have a real bad influence if implemented wrong. If the cars send out a signal giving all the data that a cop would need to give a ticket that would just be cruel. I read a short story a while ago posted on another forum about a car guy who goes to the drag strip in the future, the basic premise was that he was racing in his daily driver, and he passed the legal speed limit, and while he was racing a ticket was printed out in his car.

There are some fundemental things why this wouldnt really work:

1. every road has a different speed limit, building the infrastructure wouldnt be cost effective to be able to print out a ticket every time you went over the limit
2. How would the info be transmitted to a police car? Bluetoothe or some other wireless connection, most of them only have a range of 30 or so feet, image doing 75mph with a cop car 30 feet behind you...
3. I got boerd of this post I'm done writing.

id just tell them to shove it right up their ass.

I dont even have a tesco club card. Think of all that info it gives away - they even know when a woman of the houses 'time of the month' would be - and how 'heavy' it is.

Thats the level of detail you can give away.

Im waiting for the day when the till ticket tells you that your not eating healthy, cos there is too much saturated fat in what you eat. Combined with a pressure pad at the till, it could feed back to the nhs wether or not your a fat bastard, and should recieve treatment of not.

paranoid, me? Who would have guessed a few years back that your picture could be taken by a speed cam, and that a typical journey could hav you pass several cctv cameras, and that the mobile phone co knows exactly where you are.......

Not to forget the credit cards and the dam ATM machines that give away your spending habits and geographical area lots of `runaways` get caught out because of the information they generate.
