Using Skype on a Smart TV.
We have a friend who's wife is very disabled so to keep in touch with their family she currently uses Skype on her laptop.
For Christmas they are going to buy a new Smart TV and wanted to add a camera to this and wireless connection to their router so his wife can speak to
her family using Skype running on the TV.
Apparently the TV they are considering has 3 USB ports and he thinks one of these will be required for the camera connection but isn't sure how
to connect to the router and how (if necessary) to set up Skype on the TV.
Apparently it has been suggested he uses a powerline kit to send data to his router over the mains but I don't really understand why.
Does anyone have any experience / advice on this? Is it likley he will be able to sort it out ourselves or is he going to need to buy the kit from
someone who can set it up in his home.
Any help would be much appreciated.
John.
PS Appologies if this is a bit garbled but I'm not that familiar with Skype.

Most Smart TV's or Internet TV's use an ethernet cable to plug into the router....
So he can either use an wireless access point and plug that into the tv. Or run a network cable straight from Router.
Or a USB Dongle apparently....

You can get compatible wireless dongles (i.e. a Samsung one. I belive there are cheapo ebay/amazon ones that aren't actually made by Samsung but
still work fine).
I've got my smart TV (Samsung 5500 40" something something) connected via ethernet cable. Straight into my router/apple airport. Setup was
a complete doddle, it sorted everything out itself and works with both devices.
As for webcams, I believe you have to buy the proprietary ones - not sure whether they connect via USB or special port. They are a bit of a rip off
but not too bad I suppose £50-80 I believe depending on the model.
I'd recommend running an ethernet cable (ebay does 10-15m ones for about a fiver delivered !!!!) if at all possible. The wifi IMHO would be much
more sensitive/unreliable on a TV.
