OT: Oven not heating up

Evening Gents,

After going to fetch my nice oven meal I can home to find the oven is not working:

What happened:

Turned the oven on to 200 and left as normal. 10 minutes later I found the RDC has tripped and it was the switch that controls the oven. Flipped it back on and turned the over back on. After 30 mins the oven was just look warm. Just warm enough to make butter go soft.

I'm thinking its the heating element that has gone.

What do people think? Is there any way to test/confirm this before I order one?

Idea welcome.

Cheers Ash

Ours went a few weeks ago, similar symptoms, it was the electric element, really easy to change & cost about £25

Worst bit as extracting the oven from the kitchen cabinet as its a built in one & we have a galley type kitchen with not much room to manouvre.

Not sure about testing the element but i think you can do a resistance check on them............awaiting the locostbuilders expertise for the answer

Good luck.

Thanks for the info Andy.

They look around the 35 Mark for ours..

Just extractive the buggar now.. can be done from inside the oven which is handy.

I'd put good money on it being the element. Classical symptoms. Relatively easily fixed if as said a bit of a PITA.

Thanks Guys.

The offending item has been stripped out and fingers crossed its that bit. As in the last 6 weeks the Washer, Dishwasher and Oven have all gone belly up... All less that 5 years olds. I really do subscribe to the theory items are designed to last 5 years!

I did have to take the oven out of the hole as one of the elecement wires dropped off when gently pulling the element out. Now recovered and all wires labled for refitting.

SWMBO Comment was "You pick your moment to take things to pieces"

Mine reply was "Dont you ever clean behind the cooker... look at att that dust"

Looks like the M/W will take a battering till the new bit arrives £35 from espares.

Thanks Again

Ash

IIRC you should get 28 ohms across the element, or it could be the thermostat.
