Carb Advertising Advice...

I've just bought a pair of Keihin flat slide carbs that were advertised as being 45mm (no expansion on that description).

I assumed that this meant 45mm on the 'engine' side.

They haven't arrived yet, but the more that I look at the photo's, the more it seems that the bellmouth is a larger diameter and I'm wondering if the seller has measured the 45mm from this end!?

I'm just anticipating a problem, so thought I would check with the enlightened masses of LCB as to which end of a carb or throttle body would you expect to be 45mm if advertised so?

Cheers!

We used to use the fcr flat slides on the f1 and F2 sidecars, the number refers to the bore size of the spigots that screw into the carbs on the engine inlet side so they should be as you had assumed

Thanks Andy!

I was getting concerned when I couldn't find a PWK 45, but some more searching has revealed a tech drawing which shows the engine inlet side diameter as being 46mm (which will do fine).

Bugger! They arrived yesterday and despite the assurances from the vendor that they are 45mm carbs, it turns our that the 45mm relates to the OD. The ID is 40mm and therefore far too small.

So back to my original Q... are carb / throttle bodies generally measure by the ID of the 'engine' inlet side?

Cheers.
