Mobile phones

Looking to get a new mobile. I currently have a work one but I don't particularly like getting quizzed on usage so they can shove it right up their ronson.
Any recommendations for handset and contract ?
Prefer a monthly contract and I don't really use it a huge amount. Texting is not a big deal to me either. Would like a usable camera and possibly some other bells and whistles.
Oh, and I'd like the handset to be free and the contract to be around a tenner a month.

avoid 7610, great camera and mp3 player, but crap reliability and a poor user interface.

as for network, make sure you check on eachs reception at home and in your usual haunts - i moved house and t mobile didnt work at the new one. moved to voda.

you might struggle to find a 10 pound a month contract. aim for cross network free mins if you have pals on other networks - the bills soon add up if you run out of mins. 200 Xnetwork mins is about 25 quid i think.

if you want the phone to double as a digi camera, try to get one of the megapixel cameras. still a bit crap, but better than most.

is there any way to find out what network has best reception in your area short of assembling a group of friends on different networks, and going into each room and making a note of their level of reception?

ps avoid nokia 6100. it doesn't have a camera so maybe that's redundant but anyway...

the networks maintain maps with each areas reception listed. DONT BELIEVE THEM! t mob tried telling me i had good reception, i assured them i didnt...

vodaphone seems to have good cover all over. not sure about the rest.

I use Orange pay as you go and don't get through £2 a month. I wish I had friends . Brother in law has an Orange contract at £15.00 a month that has doubled his previous minutes at the same price and gave him a new camera phone.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

The phones use the O2 network if '3' reception isn't possible. I guess there must still be some areas where you can get neither.

3 phones are rubbish. they're supposed to switch to o2, perhaps they think they have a bit of 3 coverage so they try to use that.. then it craps out. my friends with 3 phones all complain about it, i try and call one of them and can never get through. AVOID.

Steve- had a V500 - didn't like it, as you say, crap camera and it kept turning itself off, and the button rubbed marks on the screen (flip fone). 6230 has better camera and video too.....

I have a 6230... it's not bad.

Not happy with having to take covers off to get to the memory card to move to PC. I do have software and cable but.... also the covers aren't very good and dust/crud gets inside and fogs the camera lens. However, saying that... it's a phone.

We just bought 30 and to be honest these combined with the nokia hands free kits are terrible... all 30 of the user's complain about crackling when on hands free cradle, it's hard to distinguish what is being said.

As 'a phone' the 6130 was a better business phone.
