trade exhibition gave your enviable credentials/particulars to me. I
have decided to seek a confidential co-operation with you in the execution
of the deal described hereunder for the benefit of all parties and hope
you will keep it as a top secret because of the nature of this
transaction.

which we want to transfer abroad with the assistance and co-operation
of a foreign company/individual to receive the said fund on our behalf
into a reliable company/individual account depending on your
convenience.

More so, we are handicapped in the circumstances, as the South Africa
Civil Service Code of Conduct does not allow us to operate offshore

represents the balance of the total contract value executed
on behalf of my Department by a foreign contracting firm, which we the
officials over-invoiced deliberately. Though the actual contract cost
have been paid to the original contractor, leaving the balance in the
tune of the said amount which we have in principles gotten approval to
remit by Key Tested Telegraphic Transfer (K.T.T) to any foreign bank
account you will provide by filing in an application through the Justice
Ministry here in South Africa for the transfer of rights and privileges
of the former contractor to you.

I have the authority of my partners involved to propose that should you
be willing to assist us in the transaction, your share of the sum will
be 25% of the US$19.1 million, 70% for us and 5% for taxation and
miscellaneous expenses. The business itself is 100% safe, on your part
provided you treat it with utmost secrecy and confidentiality. Also your
area of specialization is not a hindrance to the successful execution of
this transaction.

I have reposed my confidence in you and hope that you will not

How do you know he/she is South African and black (Xhosa speaker)? Nothing else in message is true, so why should believe his alias?
Most of these e-mails supposedly originate from Nigeria, and they rely on our naivete, greed, and a corrupt banking system and ISP industry. I get lots of these and they are laways good for a laugh. The important thing is not to reply to them, because they send thousands of these messages blind, they have no idea that your e-mail is "alive" unless you reply to them. If you do, then exepect a lot more spam.

No, the important thing is to meet up with them and then beat them till they bleed. Then tie them to a chair and take a electric drill and spade bit to their kneecaps.
Followed (a few agonising days later) by removal of finger and eyes by wire cutters to prevent further PC usage.

Some may think that's a bit extreme but hey, works for me!

Cita,
Fair point friend, I hmbley stand correctd

James,
Dude, what an imagination, what talent. Uncle Sam could really use you in a "correctional" facility west of Baghdad!

What I was trying to say is that the e-mail could have come from anywhere. According to the BBC more than three quarters of spams come from five e-mail addresses in western Miami. The internet service providers (ISPs) know who these people are and are perfectly capable of shutting them down, but they'd rather take the money the spammers pay.
Similarly, the majority of frauds are transacted through western banks, but the banks prefer to take their commission and look the other way, as they do with drug money, war diamonds etc.

Finally, amazing as it may sound, these spammers do this because they actually make money, a lot of it, because there are a lot of people out there who fall in for these schemes. These people are guilty of terminal stupidity, maybe we should James on them

Political correctness isn't funny. It's a great way of killing a joke or suppressing an atmosphere. James was being amusing. I don't suppose for one moment that he really intends to follow those actions.

Well, I was amused anyway and no, I wouldn't do it either.

Cheers,

Neil.

Neil,
Maybe, but being patronizing must come a close second.
