ROTAX
I've got a Rotax 582 that I think might have had both mineral and synthetic oil used in the fuel mix. Anyone out there able to tell me if there
are any probs that could arise from running the engine with the different oils, and/or a mix of the two?
Many thanks, Ian.

I would have thought that being total loss as the 2 stroke lubrication is, if its been used/mixed appropriatly then either would have done their job
at the time with no detriment to the engine?

Ian,
Try getting onto a Microlight forum, cos I'm sure that several m/l manufacturers have used/are using them.
Might be able to help, though I'd go along with what ReMan says.

Thanks for the replies, managed to get hold of the previous owner, and it's only been run on synthetic.

From my days owning Sea-Doo jet ski's that use Rotax engines, it was always best to use their own brand synthetic.
The mix for Rotax 2 strokes was different from other blends.
Think it to do with the use of rotary induction as opposed to reed valve....

The only oil-mixing problem I've heard about with 2-strokes was castor oil and mineral oil - I believe that you can end up with a goo if they
mix in a hot engine.
I don't suppose they've used castor oil in aircraft since WW1, so it shouldn't be a problem! (or are you using this Rotax in your
Locost...)

Ive known guys who have used both in thier microlight engines and had no problems as long as the ratio's are correct.
Ive used both in rotax's and Fuji engines,in saying that a quick call to the previous owner will keep your mind at rest, you tend to get a bit
hot under the collar when the fan stops at 2000 feet.
Cheers,

Yep, don't mix castor oils (such as Castrol R) with any other oil as it turns to gunge and causes no end of problems!
Mineral and synthetic are fine though.....
