FORMULA 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone had the wheels of his car stolen at the weekend.
Thieves left a dent in the bodywork when they jacked up the motor, before making off with two wheels from the new car, which was parked outside his
London penthouse.
Replacing the wheels - which cost more than £5000 each - may prove tricky, as Ecclestone's £300,000 Mercedes CLS55 AMG V8 Kompressor is the
first of its type in the UK.
The multi-millionaire said he would even buy the wheels back from the thief. He may get the chance, as CCTV cameras captured the thief and the
registration of the getaway car he drove.

in the report i read, the wheels were £500 each, plus he had locking nuts and a full factory alarm set. Not a clue how they managed that then!
aparently he has lost control of F1 to the banks now too!

You can buy tools to remove locking wheel nuts from your average tool shop.
Its like a socket with a reverse thread in it and your drive it on and screws on to the locking nut and undoes it.
At least thats what I read somewhere else anyway.

quite true chris, i nearly invested in one recently (bought a car with the socket missing). would take big balls though, to faff about with one of
those on each wheel while trying not to set off the alarm!

Probably added 15 seconds per wheel, we get load of cars in for repair with lockers, but no key. A bluntened chisel, LH drill........

I just wonder whether someone is trying to persuade him to bring back wheel changes during pitstops.
Quite funny. A bloke that rich has to park in the street!

That reminds me, A guy at work used to use a center punch and a hammer to take his off as he had lost the locking nut key for his company van.
There just to slow thieves down, like steering wheel locks that can be removed by cutting through the wheel, simple to remove but takes time.

The non damaging way is to use a a couple of lengths of metal dowel and a 12 point socket
|

Gave me a good laugh when I read it too.
Feel sorry for whoever did it though - apparently they were seen on the CCTV Bernie has outside his "house" and Bernie is not reporting it
to the police.
From what I have read about Mr E someone may well end up lacking the ability to walk on their own soon. Not sure I should have said that as it may be
me!!
