Which car do I chose.

I am about to buy a car and I can't make up my mind.

My choices are;
Lotus Elise 111S 2003
VX220 Turbo 2003
Honda S2000 2002
Porche Boxter 2000

I know that the vx is the better car, but it seems like no one wants them, they are stopping production next month.
S2000 I was not overly impressed with.

PS Locost for sale...

VX220 and elise are much the same car. The VX is more powerful but more heavy. Having been round the lotus test track as a passenger in a VXturbo I can tell you that it is fast. It also has airbags and ABS.

For me, the elise is the purest of the breed and the lower weight has got to have a positive effect on handling and brakeing (oops nearly said brakeing, who'd have thought it talking about lotuses?)

i would go for a black vx220 turbo

after all hasn't it got the same chassis as the elise. all are hairdressers cars but the turbo makes you feel like a barber rather than a hairdresser...high revving s2000's are nice and will probably hold their money more than the others,
i would'nt mind a drive in the new mx8 either

My better half was looking at the VX220 until she decided she couldn't fit her work gear in it! Several write ups we read suggested that for snob value the Elise was the one to have, but for pure value for money, the VX220 was the better car. As far as driveability was concerened, there wasn't enough in it to warrant going for an Elise. It seemed from the commentry that the VX220 is that close in performance that it really makes no difference. Chassis etc are the same from what I remember. It would be the VX220 for me, as value for money means more than a badge on what is essentially the same car. If they are having trouble selling them they might be willing to do a deal? Good luck.

I love the look of the Elise but if the car also has to be practical i think id be seriously tempted by the Porker, thay are a seriously good car. Honda is a good contender but there is something about them that puts me off, looks to much like a toy / hair salon owners car (MX5 for the hairdressers, S2000 for the owner!!!!! he he).

Panzer. Definately.
had one for about a year, great car.
in a different league of build quality than both the Elise and VX.
Faster too.

german tank is the only panzer i know....

but isn't the porker boxster the really cheap version of the breed

personally i'd rather a late 80's whale tale 911 or a early 90's 964 model, and get good deals on classic insurance and a large spares network...

Taking the Elise out tomorrow for a test drive.
I don't really care about being practicle as my bird has a car for that reason.

The Porsche is the best car there. No question.

It's just that the Elise is cutting edge handling......

The VX no one will want to buy off you cos its not an Elise

You buy the honda if you really really like it.

But only one of them is a Porsche. Simple innit?

Panzer := Porker := Racing Beetle:= Porche

As has been said- VX possibly best handler, Boxter is best car.

And it'd hammer an old whale tail round a track, no prob!

I went for the Elise S2

Test drove the VX220, didn't like the gear linkage which was very rough and noisy or the servo assisted brakes and IMO the Elise looks so much nicer.

Best car I've ever owned, will the Locost get close I wonder?

Go for a mk1 elise sport 135 (or 160 if you're daring enough). They wont deprieciate as much and are just as good as the new ones, except for if you have a back problem (the reason we got rid of ours) or are 6'4"+, because the door cills are higher.

Definitely the Elise.

Because you live in Scotland which has the best driving roads in the world, and that's what an elise does first and foremost.
I've only had a short amount of time with one and that was enough to convince me.
Never had a go in a Boxster, but a member of family has just started as a salesman with Sytner, so maybe I'll have to twist his arm a wee bit

There is also a very active elise group in Scotland.

P.S. You'll fit in it no bother, but make sure you're happy with getting out with the hood on. Getting in is easy.

One last almost unrelated point. My experience with the elise drove my purchase of the GTM. Mid engined K series, around 700Kg, almost practical. And no - the GTM isn't really for sale - it's a smoke and mirrors domestic ploy...

Join the yahoo group, introduce yourself and then ask them. Honestly - they're a great bunch.
Search yahoo groups under Scottish Elises.
