the way i see it the FIA is the ones that should be in the dock,is it worth risking someones life on dodgy tyres?what if a driver or spectator had died?why couldnt they have just put a chicane in?
the "rules is rules" attitude with no room for manouver is stupid, several tyres have gone pop this year and more will follow till someone gets hurt or killed then the hand wringing brigade will be banning motorsport at all levels

Why didn't the Michelin runners take some of the downforce off the rear of the cars to reduce cornering speeds which in turn would reduce the stress on the tyre?

I don't see that putting a chicane in would have made things safer.... if it was a lash up job at the last minute surely that would be as unsafe as running the race on dodgey tyres.....

I fail to see why the FIA wouldn't, considering it was exceptional cercumstances, allow the teams to run on either bridgestone or change their michelin tyres every 10 laps. Can someone explain this to me?

Who the f**K tightened this up!

The Michelin cars could have changed their tyres every ten laps, that was suggested by the FIA, the teams rejected that one.

My humble opinion is that it's a collective cock-up - many guilty parties but no single villain, and an awful lot of losers. It looks like F1 has started to self-destruct, as many have predicted for a very long time.

I just hope that Bernie doesn't decide to get his claws into some other worthy championship (e.g. bike racing).

Unfortunately Ralph Schumachers tyre failed on his first flying lap so saying change tyres every 10 laps wouldn't have been safe either.
9 of the teams agreed to the addition of a chicane and ferrair 'didnt object' so they were handed an easy solution on a plate. why didn't they take it ? because they were too arrogant ?

the reason (as i understand it) that a chicane would have made the situation safer is that it would have unloaded the rear left tyre briefly before the bend and would have effectively reduced exit speeds from the bend by up to 100mph.

In Michelin's safety statement they said the tyre would be ok for 10 laps.
At the same time- there wouldn't be enough spare tyres for them each to change every 10. That'd be 7 tyres per car! Even flying them in would be no good as there wouldn't be that many made at the factory- they're expensive and they 'go off' pretty rapidly so there's not a seasons worth kicking round at any one time!
