Yet more Formula 1 Quaifying changes?
Not sure if anyone else has posted this but there are yet more proposals for changes to the qualifying format in 2006. They're asking for input
here:

I prefer the sound of the second option (although neither sounds especially great). What is it with their obsession with aggregate timings?

Although option one will be easily understood by the casual viewer, option two could see the fastest ten cars have their final session affected by the
weather meaning that the drivers that were placed 11th to 20th could find themselves 1st to 10th by the end of the last session.....if you see what i
mean.

I prefer my 2 options.....
1) Single lap as 2005 but with light fuel
2) Back to the old 12 laps ( 4 x 3 laps) system but , you can only run once in every 15min period , so they dont all sit it out in the garage
'til the end....
If anyone knows , Bernie or Max can you forward these on!!!

I think they should use the traditional old stockcar method - the more points you've amassed in the current season, the further back on the grid
you start. Simple.
Might (will) create a few nasty first corner scrapyards, but just think of the entertainment value

I agree with Jeff re stockcars. I think its the only way we're going to get on track overtaking at the moment. In touring cars they get a weight
penalty don't know about other formulas though.
I think the sport would be a lot more interesting if the cars were able to tow along and overtake and its probably the only thing thats killing the
spectatability ( lke that word ) of the sport.

I like this one Dave.
I think there's talk of "back to slicks" and "reducing down force" in 2007.
This should make the old, "get the tow and nip past" more feasible.
I think they need to pick a format and stick to it.
I can see the day coming when they stop on lap 30, make new rules, then go out again.

probably right there paul, the high downforce that they have makes the 'dirty air'/turbulance that makes it so hard to keep on someones
tail.

Trouble with this is all the decent corners now have half a dozen chicanes added in case the cars might actually entertain, making drafting a thing of
the past. Think Woodcote of the Eighties, it was a long fast sweeping bend that you could pass on either side with enough speed and balls, now its
called "The Luffield Complex" and what a waste of time it is. It is too twisty, too slow, there is only one line round it and it makes
drafting up the start/finish straight impossible because of the exit speeds.
