removing rubber bushes from wishbone...
posted in here as its on my pug 205. I have polybushes from rally design to go on both sides to replace the knackered sloppy rubber items.
The haynes book says 'make a simple puller from bolts and washers' or something similar with no details of how to actually do this. ive
tried knocking it out with a suitable size socket, but can't get enough swing with a hammer. i've since cut the rubber centre and inner
tube out, but any tips as to a simpler way to go about it as i still have the other bush on this wishbone and both on the other side to go. there has
to be an easier way!

Blowlamp heat will debond the rubber from the metal outer bush --- but be careful don't use too much heat apart from the obvious fire danger
burning synthetic rubbers of the type used in bushes produces small ammounts of really nasty acids.
After getting ruber out you can slot the outer ring with a hach saw and peel it out with a smallish cold chisel.

Buy a bit of studding from B&Q, then use a pair of sockets, one slightly smaller than the bush and another big enough for the bush to fit in.
Push the studding through the bush, sockets, washers and nuts & both ends then just wind it out by tightening the nuts, the small socket will push
the bush out into the larger one.

As British Trident suggests ,a blow torch or welding torch to heat up the inner steel bush/burn off rubber then use a hacksaw to JUST cut through the
outer steel bush then a small chisel . A lot easier than messing around trying to make up puller., use a vice and plenty of WD 40 /washing up liquid
to lubricate new bushes when fitting if tight, HTH

i tried making a puller using large sockets and threaded bar, but the top hat of the bush is larger than that end of the wishbone, so you can't
get any surface to 'pull' against. i tried getting round this by grinding hte top hat end off the bush, but it still didn't work.
popped out and bought a blow torch as british trident suggested and it worked a treat. i could knock the centre steel tube out and then cut the outer
sleeve with the hacksaw and then used a large flat blade screwdriver to knock the remaining twisted metal out of the hole.
the suspenion is now much better on the side i've done, but i noticed in my efforts that the track rod end has a lot of up and down movement in
the ball joint, so that still has a lesser effect on the steering and will be a job in the wek once i get the parts.

Don't use wd40 / washing up liquid. They rot rubber (not sure about plastic). Get a proper rubber and nylon lubriacant. Places like Halfrauds
sell it. Its really good stuff.
