dodgy diesel advice?

ooops, hold on.

[Edited on 30/7/05 by suparuss]

got a weird problem with me 3.1 turbo diesel interguzzler in my isuzu. i got it mot'd the other day and as part of that had a leak fixed in the diesel system, so i gets the car back and drive it home no probs, next day i set off out and on the way up a hill 2 minutes later it starts chugging then cuts out. thought it might have run out of fuel (it was low and the tank is wide and flat so the hill wont have made things any better)
so i goes and gets some diesel and start it up and carry on with my journey.
now for some reason it still keeps chugging and cutting out unless i blip the throttle, and also runs really sluggish intermitently.
i can sort of keep it going by adjusting the warm up valve thing but that cant be good for it. any idieas??
ive run out of fuel before and it ran fine afterwards.
also when i take the fuel cap off after running it seems pressurised, not sure if its vacuum or positive pressure though.

Cheers,

Russ.

Diesels are better than petrols in anything over 1500kgs if that was the question

yep it sounds like it is drawing air into the fuel suction line.

allready did, and it seems there is still diesel leaking out a bit. theyve just chopped out the dodgy steel pipe and replaced with hose and jubilee clips.
could that be it then??

Thanks.

Did they use a new piece of hose? some fabric covered hose can perish under the fabric . May be worth fitting a new piece of hose and proper fuel hose clips . Don't like Jubilee clips for small hoses prefer the type you crimp up . Also check the pipe near to repair it may be rusted and cutting it could have made it leak .

bloody nora batty. just wrapped a load of that self amalgamating hose repair tape round the bit that was leaking (just happened to have some) and it still is dodgy. i have to drive to leeds tomorrow which should be fun, although half hour on the motorway might clear its throat so to speak. or it might die. if it does ill bill the garage. itll be going back to the garage on monday anyway by the looks of things. although im a bit dubious about taking it to them again!
thanks for the help though!

Sounds like its sucking air to me. The tank shouldnt have that much pressure in it either. Has it aquired a blocked breather in the tank?

dodgy diesels

Sounds like either a blocked tank breather or blocked fuel filter. Have experienced both of these and had similar symptoms to yours. The blocked tank breather was enough to cause the partial collapse of the fuel tank on a Range Rover. Judicious use of an airline was enough to pop it back out again though.
