Punto Sump replacement

My partners punto sporting 1.2 has sprung an oil leak - the sump has rusted through!

Anyone ever come across this before and is the sump easy to remove with the engine in situ for welding up?

Thanks in advance

Mark

Before welding up check out the cost of a new one, easy to remove/refit but usual crap Fiat steel/rustproofing.

Can't help with a Punto but I know mine for a Fiesta would have been about £40 for a new sump.

That had rusted badly from the outside through and was helped along by big dip closely followed buy a big bump in the road!

Erm no nicer way 2 put it but it was a completed BASTARD! to change! Being FWD the exhaust was in the way, starter motor had to come off as there was bolts you couldn't get to behind that etc, took about 4hrs or seomthing daft doing it on the driveway on axel stands.

Good Luck!

Was it some time ago? I've just been quoted £76.85 plus VAT or was the £30 just for the sealer?

Good to know it's not such a difficult job though..

Cheers

Ive heard its a problem with them aswell. My gf's is looking like it may finally go in the not too distant future. Seem to require a lot of attention these little Puntos, what with cambelts, rear bushes, cam cover leaks...etc
