Ford Focus problem
I was wondering if anyone could help with a problem that's suddenly started with my wifes Ford Focus. When the ignition is turned on the
tailgate opens! This happens immediately and before the starter motor is used and it happens everytime. The tailgate latch solenoid can be heard
operating as soon as the ignition switch makes contact. Anyone heard of this problem. Any ideas?

I'd guess its a faulty relay (or control module if it has one).
Fords have an interlock so the boot solenoid cannot be operated when the ignition is switched on.
Sounds like this is working in reverse lol.
Looks like a job for the Haynes, or listen for which relay clicks when you turn the ignition on.
(or as a tempory measure so its more secure, remove the fuse/relay for the boot release till you can fix it)

No direct experience of this but is there a remote tailgate release switch on the dash or down by the drivers seat?
Could anything be causing a short circuit there?
Just a guess like!

I have had a few cases of faulty keys .. they have a remote boot release on most of them for the focus.. is twisting the key making the contacts touch
within the fob?
worth checking out, i know it sounds daft
