Trailer Question

Hi,

I am looking into building my own car trailer,is it OK to have just 2 of the four wheels braked?, or does it have to be all four.

I am looking at 1 completes 750kg braked axle, and 1 pair of 750kg unbraked hub assemblys.

will this be OK??

cheers

ray

I looked at building a trailer for the brother in laws hot rod. By the time all materials were priced etc there was only about £300 of difference between that and a Brian james fully galvanised tried and tested design. He bought the Brian james and I have to tell you after towing it I would never build another car transporter myself ( I have built 2 in the past). It tows like a dream and is perfectly balanced. I've also towed one of their tilt beds which was wider and longer and it was the same only noticeably heavier and tended to tug a bit.
Try to tow one first before you build your own.

Ray, its up too you but for such a light car i would have a single axle jobbie, 4 wheel trailers are a pain in the arse too move around drives, yards ect........

thanks for the replies,

already looked at the brian james ones, nice, but the smallest that will carry my car won't fit in my garage(unless i get rid of my bench+toolchest) so thought i could build one the right size.

Hiya Jon, i thought about a single axle but won't it be less comfortable to tow with??.

also looked at the caravan chassis way, but how do you stand legally?, has anyone done it what are the pro's and cons?.
