T9 input shafts.

Anybody happen to know if the long and short input shafts are interchageable? I realise the front sleeve/bearing cover is different, just wondered if there were any other differences. Am I right in assuming they use the same casings for both types of box?

ATB, Geoff.

I don't believe they are interchangeable as 1st gear is a different ratio.

Cheers

I don't know, but that shouldn't make any odds in theory mookaloid, first gear is a seperate gear pair to the drop (input) gear pair.

iirc (and I think I do) 1st gear is at the back of the box nearest 5th, 2nd shares that sync sleeve, then 3rd is in front of that and 4th locks the input shaft to the mainshaft, then 5th is tacked on the back.

The input ratios may be different but the ratio of any other gear will not necessarily prove this!

I believe that the long input shaft can be re-machined to to replicate the short input shaft. That way you get a stronger box with better ratios (taller 1st?) than the std short shafter.

Is it a big job to strip and rebuild a T9?

Bob.

Ok, thanks for the replies, looks like a 'suck it and see' job. I'll let you know if and when I find the definitive answer.

Cheers all, Geoff.
