Tin Top Troubles

Certainly not low cost or locost, but I've tried on certain Fiat forums, and they appear to be clueless pikies.
SO..........
Does anyone know about alarm systems?
My Fiat Bravo alarm/remote central locking has packed up. Central locking still works by using the key in the lock and the immobiliser works via the car recognising a chip in the key, but no alarm or remote locking.
The shocking fact is that seeing as I don't have the precious 'red key' containing the alarm codes, Fiat think its acceptable to quote over £700 to fix it!!

I'm hoping someone will be able to steer me around this problem maybe using chipped keys and someone to reprograme the system??

There used to be, about 3 or 4 yrs ago, a branch of Trents (car dismantlers) that did chipped keys, but they have dissappeared now.

Any (related) thoughts appreciated,

Sam.

try unlocking your car from the passenger side, and see if the drivers door unlocks,if it doesn;t it may be the motor in the drivers door that is goosed, some systems rely on the motor in the drivers door triggering the rest of the central locking, if it is you can get a motor form maplin electronics cheap, you just need to know if its a 2 wire or 5 wire(more likely)

might also be worth posting on www.ilexa.co.uk

just found this aswell

FIAT/ALFA/LANCIA
Bravo/Brava
1. Firstly obtain the 4 digit security code for the vehicle
2. Press the button (in the interior light assembly there is a button and an
LED next to the alarm ultrasonics) for about a second and the LED will flash.
3. Release the button
4. After approx 5 seconds the LED will flash once
5. Enter the first digit of the security code using the button as above. Wait
for about 5 seconds and the LED will flash once
6. Enter the second digit of the security code as above- if one of the digits is
a zero, do not press the button at all and wait for the single flash requesting the next digit.
7. If all the numbers are entered correctly the LED will flash for 10 seconds
whilst the LED is flashing, press and hold the right hand button near the
interior light (used above)
8. The LED will continue to flash until you press a button of a remote- it will
then remain on.
9. Release button of remote and the one in the interior light.

It's little consolation, but a similar operation on my Toyota Carina cost me around £200 a couple of years ago - and that was for a factory refurbished job (each time they replace an alarm unit they send the old one back for reprogramming, then sell those on as refurbished).

God only knows what they'd have charged me for a a brand new unit...
... but £700 seems steep.

rgds,
David

David,
I'd much rather pay £200 to restore the car's system than purchase an aftermarket alarm (although it may be superior) for the same price, but I'm not sure Fiat will do that sort of thing.
Not paying £700 either way.

My next door neighbour has a set of 3 keys, 2 blue and 1 red, all locks and the EMS module, I think he wants £100

When I built my Libra the Rover (5AS) immobiliser, key-fobs and ECU all had to be aligned.
TheChrysler Neon apparently had the keys discontinued requiring a new immobiliser system from Chrysler.
My problems were solved by Avon Automotive Diagnostics and the Neon Key Issue was solved by the same company more cheaply I believe.
They may be worth an enquiry. I have a phone number if you require it.

I have heard of Fiats being scrapped because the of security ECU issues -- lost red kets and also the ECU going senile a losing all the codes.

Once all avenues have been explored, and if things still don't work, I'll just have to live with it.
Have to remember it is a Fit It Again Tomorrow, although I haven't had any other problems with it.
