off road buggy type thing
hi guys,
im quite bored today and i started thinking what relatively small old car would make a suitable donor car for an off road buggy of my own design for a
possible DT project next year for my a level
this year im making a big angular steel tv table with pyramids of sheet metal 
but i think soem sort of off road buggy would be great fun
ive got a 200cc wasp rally kart no suspension ride on lawnmower engine thing which is fun but a bit small and not really big enough with me being
6"3 and 20 stone but my little brother will enjoy it
and i want something bigger faster and more fun
im not worried about it being road legal because it wont be used on road itll be shipped off over to ireland for use on bog tracks and fields
i thought maybe a mini with a space frame rollcage but its a bit boring any ideas prefferably simple and not too expensive

Take a look at the NCF web site, might give you some ideas.
Land/Range rover chassis with a spaceframe over it is a well tried option and no SVA so you could even get it roadworthy with minimum effort (plenty
of other suppliers if you google)
No reason why you couldn't take the mini engine at the back approach with any modern FWD car (if ~200 Bhp/tonne is too boring  )

ive seen the ncf blitz before and its almost the kinda thing its a bit expensive tho to buy and they dont sell just plans
id bee looking to do a similar thing but maybe keep it 4 seater for added laughs

How about QT then (land rover based flatpack spaceframe) probably the best compromise for cost given the tube bender+notcher you will need to make or
buy to make your own.

Excellent use for a 600cc bike engine

i wont have the funds for a bike engine hence why i was thinking mini or similar or basically an engine i can get cheaply that wont fire me to
anywhere near 100 because that would be damn scary lol i was thinkign more like 70 - 80 max lol
i have one of these
and want to make something more like the ncf blitz well not something that looks like itbut a similar idea
i quite like the mdv rally racer looks but its waayyy to complex ... for my needs

also what you said iank abotu compromise on cost considering equipment ill have to buy thats not an issue i have access to tube benders angle
grinders welding equipment plenty of tube and box section and lots of other stuff at school

Build an autograss car!!!!!!!!!!!
dead simple, 4000 autograss licence holders in the Uk will give you free advice and plans etc!! (not that many use them!)
My mate Tim Back built this car for considerably less than £500 this year. It uses a Peugeot MI16 engine, 160 hp and weighs bugger all, all in all
good cheap fun and pretty quick!!

my car in action again...............could build an 8 valve version, with only 130hp instead of 200hp, for less than £300.
Tim sold his old vauxhall 8 valve car for £400 I think.

i thinik there's one of them down the bottom of my road. looks home builts and is always dirty, it has a number on the side so guessing it might
be an autograss car in some sort of beetle based class?!

Heh heh!
If anybody was serious about starting up autograss racing, I would be pleased to quote for a chassis etc.
To build one as cheap as mentioned you need to do it all yourself, as per Ron's magic book!
A chassis from me would certainly be "competitive" in price with anything else available though! (as in cheaper!)

Depending on what was involved, I think you would realistically be looking at around £350 to £450 for a chassis.
It would depend on what mounts were needed etc, whether you were welding engine mounts on or whether you provided an engine to work around etc.
that price would be about right though.
