problems with freeview box
got a freeview box from santa, and i have two problems-
1 . some of the freeview channels cut in and out. I assume that the signal isnt received well enough, and i'll have to invest in a new
aerial....
2. with the freeview box rigged up, the 'normal' TV channels suffer stripey interference. Ive done some mucking about, and this seems to
be radiated from the freeview box itself; it causes interefrence, even when the aerial is straight into the TV, and the SCART is disconnected....(i.e.
the new box isnt connected to the TV, but is powered up)
any thoughts??

Some FREEVIEW box's are worse than others in as much as the digital signal is compromised by the analogue signal so you actually get LESS than
what you were getting originally due to the interference.
I had a similar problem Jumpy, poor reception at the best of times with standard setup, amplified it was better, aerial on extended mast a little
better still. Could never receive 5 and the other 4 were all pretty poor reception. Ended up resorting to SKY and s**t to the aerial and analogue
systems. Only thing that annoys me is the fact that the analogue signal would have been switched off and I'd have been left with nothing at all
- not that I watch much TV I've better things to do - but whilst I'm in the garage it keeps the family happy

as random as it may sound is the freeview box on top of your tv?
i got one back in september bought for me by a mate for my birthday, worked great then i moved it to a shelf under my tv and it started going mental,
thought it was the box so phoned my mate said it thought it had a problem he came over took one look, moved it back on top of my tv and it's
been fine ever sinse! known a few ppl this has happened to now it's quite strange!
built a car, built a home, had a family. lost the family, lost the home, still got the car.

The only thing that affects my box is traffic, noisy mopeds break up the signal but it soon rights itself. Have you connected an aerial fly lead as
well as a scart and are you running through a video as well? If you were picking up a good analogue signal you should get a good digital signal

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Freview boxes tend to like a very clean and reflection free signal but signal strength dosen't have to be that strong - in fact too strong a
signal causes problems. With my original Pace digital box I had problems with a couple of channels -- the signal strength showed high but I was
getting a high percentage of uncorrected errors I cured it by using a 6db attenuator between the aerial wire and the wall socket. However I
don't need the atennuator since I got a new digital TV.
The other thing is check the quality and condition of the aerial leads -- an iffy aerial lead can cause uncorrected errors. If you have a loft
aerial it is possible that reflections within the loft usually from from the water tank are causing problems.
