What's all this Gulval business

I've obviously missed something (quite normal) and will now appear to be asking a daft question, but what/where is Gulval and why don't people want to be from there?

curious.....

Gulval is a place in Cornwall, no idea what the lark is all about but they do seem a jolly lot our Cornish (and naturalised Cornish!!) chums!!

Mark Allanson explained it a while back:
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=38344

"Gulval churchyard has effigies of pagan gods, the chip shop sells battered babies, 30% of the population live in council caves, they have cats the size of labradors, and due to its remote location and very tight family groups, special items of footware are required by its inhabitants.

The nearby remote hamlet of Polkinghorne was discovered by Mr Godfrey T Stephens in 1953, previously the name was thought to be a uniquely cornish sexual act!

I think every county has its Gulval, Kent has its Faversham, Derby has its Buxton etc etc "

That's the problem with 'in' jokes though - when you get to the centre of it all, it isn't actually funny. It just seemed funny at the time.
