0 - 60mph
don't know where to put this topic ...
but the wuestion is nex can anybody tell me what is the 0-60mph and max speed of Locost with some motor so I can make a decision what to put in
mine.
so for example Honda 1.6L 16v engine with 136HP is making what time 0-60mph and can make maximum speed of what in a Locost offcourse...
the point is to make conclusion how much power do I need ... I have an idea to make a Locost that is going 12seconds on a 1/4miles drag track or
something like that anything faster than 14sec is more than grate but why stop there...
I was thinking something like honda engine mentined up in the txt , or maybe saab 2.0L turbo 200HP whit opel omega transmition but that is a little
more than I wanted to invest in Locost but it would be damn fast ....
any numbers plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

It depends a lot on the gearing and wheel sizes you use, but as a clue a standard 2 litre pinto with just over 100bhp, will give you about 6 seconds
0-60mph apparently.
Some of the bike engined cards are sub 4seconds 0-60.

a 500kg carbed R1 engine car should it 60 in about 4 seconds, 100 in 9.5 ish and 1/4 mile in the 12 - 13 second region. It depends on your tyres,
whether you fit a windscreen / have inboard shocks, have a sierra or escort axle etc...
A 400gk car would knock half a second off the 0-60 time and a second and a half off the others, give or take.
A rover V8 westfied and a hyabusa engined westfield have published 0-60 times of just a shade under 4 seconds as well.
4 cylinder car engined locosts are often in the 5 - 8 second range depending on your choice of engine. Obviously a 2.0i Duratec will have more power
than a 1.3 crossflow and tuned versions of all engines should have more power than standard ones.

Remember engine rotation direction on Honda Engines (especially the 4 pots) - You don't want 5 reverse gears
Concerning top speed, with a full screen fitted you'll be hitting the aerodynamic wall at 135-140

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a
car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

The axel that I goth is Lada axcel and the transnisin box is also Lada same as in the old Porches ... as I'm told ... so more rpm as much as
posible and HP also ... I woudnt shorthen the diff so I can achive 200kmh @ 1/4mile exit speed
The Fiat engines are chep at serbia ... I can find complete Fiat Coupe 2.0 Turbo 220HP for 700-1000euro ... that is an option ... but I realy dont
like fiat... so we will se if I progress like this I'll start puting the engine in a month
So what about the wind screen , should I use the small screen only 5-7inches or it is bether without (what about a cover for the other seat as on the
tracks) , or what about full screen but courved like on Donkervoort

if aerodynamics and top speed are important to you, you should consider using enclosed bodywork rather than traditional 7 styling. 120bhp sees mine up
to 100mph with a full windscreen, conviniently its also out of gears at that speed so theres no real point in taking it off! You can use a wind
deflector instead of a screen, that would make a lot of difference IMHO.

2.0 Vauxhall/Opel XE 16v engine (200hp) in Caterham will give around 4 sec 0-60 mph and 11 sec 1/4 mile, as ball park figures.
Retro RWD is the way forward...........automotive fabrication, car restoration, sheetmetal work, engine conversion
retro car restoration and tuning
