Guess so, i.e. getting room sizes and coming up with imaginative descriptions for small rooms and gardens full of old washing machines (bijou and 'blank canvas' anyone )

I think one of their roles is also going round before and after renters arrive/depart to work out how much of their deposit to keep - not that I'm bitter

I always got it all back, except the once.

You obviously didn't deal with a rogue estate agent. Some of them give you a shed, you give back it spotless. they then call in a 'professional cleaning service' since it wasn't to 'their standards' taking all the deposit as the cleaning cost.

Yes it will be one of the approx 7000 home inspectors that will be required when the seller’s packs become a requirement to sell your house. The pack will be required before any domestic building can go on sale in the UK and will Cost around £600 pounds but may be up to £1000. It will be the sellers that have to pay for the packs up front prior to marketing there home.

Your father could get lots of further info from places like

http://www.bre.co.uk/homeinspector/section.jsp?sid=415

http://www.abe.org.uk/assess.jsp

Both good training providers

Or from the opdm (its there bright idea)

http://www.odpm.gov.uk/index.asp?id=1150984

Training is anything from 6months to 2 years depends on experience.
